The Matter of the North
For the similar-appearing but actually quite different category of sorcerers, see Hag.
The term crone applies to a particular type of sorcerer, common in the North and elsewhere, who is usually neutral in alignment and given to dispensing objects of limited magical ability, such as talismans, charms, and herbs. Crones also have the ability to perform minor enchantments. Unlike hags, crones are frequently found in or near towns and major roads, and evoke no strong feelings from their neighbours. Crones enjoy congregating, and many regions hold an annual Cronemoot. The sterotypical crone is a monomaniacal elderly woman living in a hovel (an example being the Crazy Cat Crone), but crones can be any age and of either sex.
